In Islamic dream tradition, shepherding is viewed as a profound symbol of responsibility, justice, and societal leadership, often reflecting the dreamer's role in their community or professional life.
According to prominent scholars like Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s), a shepherd in a dream represents a guardian over people's property and well-being. Hazrat Danyal (a.s) adds that struggling with a shepherd in a dream may indicate an impending dispute with a person of high social standing. For those eligible for leadership, Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz interprets the act of shepherding as a sign of imminent appointment to an official government position or a presidency within one's family or circle.
Interpretations based on the types of animals herded
The specific animal one herds in a dream significantly alters the meaning of the vision. According to Ibn Sirin and Seyyid Suleyman:
