Dreaming of a child: Islamic interpretations and meanings
Dreaming of a child represents joy and abundance. While a baby girl heralds wealth and relief, a boy signifies good news and divine favor.
DREAMS WISDOM / NEW YORK, USA
In Islamic dream tradition, dreaming of a child is generally regarded as a symbol of joy, abundance, and the "ornament of the world," though the specific meaning shifts based on the child's gender and the context of the vision.
According to classical scholars like Ibn Sirin and Seyyid Suleyman, children in dreams act as messengers of divine favor or worldly relief. While Ibn Sirin associates a baby girl with health and prosperity, Seyyid Suleyman notes that many interpreters view small children as angelic symbols, suggesting that words spoken by a child in a dream should be taken as seriously as the words of an angel. However, details such as crying or physical defects can serve as warnings of impending sorrow.
Distinctions between male and female children
Most traditional interpreters consider dreaming of a baby girl more auspicious than dreaming of a boy. A girl symbolizes abundance, benefit, and a total escape from current hardships. For example, carrying a lovely baby girl in a dream suggests that if the dreamer is unemployed, they will return to work; if they are in debt, they will find the means to pay it off. Conversely, a baby boy is typically interpreted as "good news" or a specific joy related to the state or one's professional status.
The dreamer as a child and psychological omens
If an adult dreams of themselves becoming a small child or an infant in swaddling clothes, the interpretations vary significantly based on their current life situation:
-
Inheritance: Becoming a child can sometimes indicate a future inheritance from the maternal side.
-
Hardship or Illness: Being in swaddling clothes may symbolize a loss of property, illness, or a period of confinement.
-
Wealth and Poverty: For a person in poverty, seeing themselves as a newborn indicates future wealth; however, for a wealthy person, it might signify that their affairs will not reach completion or perfection.
Abandoned children and nursing visions
According to Diyanet and Kirmani, finding an abandoned baby in a street or at a mosque and bringing it home is a harbinger of happiness and blessing for that household. This vision also symbolizes unexpected financial gain. Furthermore, seeing a baby nursing signifies that the doors of sustenance are opening wide. However, Kirmani warns that a woman dreaming of nursing a child when she is not an actual mother could sometimes be linked to a period of restriction or darrowing circumstances.
Loss, illness, and solemn warnings
While dreaming of a child's death can be distressing, some classical texts, such as those by Ihya, interpret the "killing of a child" metaphorically as "acquiring great knowledge." However, seeing a sick child or witnessing the death of a baby girl is generally viewed as a serious warning. Such visions may indicate that one's financial resources are in jeopardy or that a period of grief is approaching. If the child recovers in the dream, it suggests that the danger will pass and stability will return.
